    According to Statistics Finland, producer prices for manufactured products rose by an average of 4.1 per cent from May 2016 to May 2017. Producer prices for manufactured products sold on the domestic market rose by 3.7 per cent, while the producer prices of export products went up by 4.6 per cent.

    According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population was 5,506,312 at the end of May. Our country's population increased by 3,015 persons during January-May. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 5,684. The number of births was 2,669 lower than that of deaths.

    General government deficit decreased by EUR 0.7 billion in January to March

    In the first quarter of 2017, consolidated total general government revenue grew by EUR 0.2 billion from the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Consolidated total expenditure decreased by EUR 0.5 billion from the previous years corresponding quarter. The difference between revenue and expenditure, that is, the deficit (net borrowing) of general government decreased by EUR 0.7 billion. Total revenue increased by 0.5 per cent from the previous quarter. Total expenditure grew by 0.1 per cent from the previous quarter. In the first quarter of 2017, the general government deficit (net borrowing) stood at EUR 0.1 billion. General government is comprised of central government, local government and social security funds.

    Statistics Finlands statistics on indebtedness show that the average size of housing loan per household-dwelling unit with a housing loan was EUR 97,220 in 2016. The average housing loan grew by 1.2 per cent year-on-year in real terms. Household-dwelling units in Greater Helsinki had the largest housing loans, EUR 133,630, on average. Housing loans also grew most in Greater Helsinki, by 2.6 per cent from the year before. Housing loans were lowest among those with housing loans in Northern and Eastern Finland, EUR 80,630, on average.

    Exports of services grew by four per cent in the first quarter of 2017 when compared with the corresponding quarter one year previously. Imports of services increased by five per cent. Exports of services were boosted by tourism, transport, and construction and project deliveries. By contrast, exports of telecommunications, computer and information services continued to decline.     According to Statistics Finland, there were 355 adoptions in Finland in 2016. The figure was 52 lower than in the year before. The number of domestic adoptions was 282 and that of international adoptions 73. The number of domestic adoptions remained almost unchanged but the number of adoptions from abroad decreased by 50 compared with the year before.

    Total energy consumption fell by 4 per cent in January to March

    According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, total energy consumption in January to March amounted to 373 petajoule (PJ), which was four per cent less than in the corresponding period in 2016. Electricity consumption amounted to 24 terawatt hours (TWh), or three per cent lower than one year earlier. Carbon dioxide emissions of the energy sector declined by eight per cent year-on-year.

    Road traffic accidents claimed 26 lives in May

    According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 404 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May. In them, 26 persons were killed and 487 persons injured. The number of persons killed was eight higher and that of persons injured 98 lower than in May 2016.

    Unemployment rate 10.7 per cent in May

    According to Statistics Finlands Labour Force Survey, the number of unemployed persons in May 2017 was 297,000, which was nearly the same as one year ago. The unemployment rate was 10.7 per cent, having been 10.8 per cent in May of the year before. There were 16,000 more employed than in May of the previous year. The number of persons in the inactive population was 13,000 lower than one year earlier.
